Figure 1 is a digital painting that captures the essence of a sunny day on the sea in the British Virgin Islands. It is a joyful representation of my experience watching the sailboats navigate the water. The painting is a digital interpretation of a fleeting moment, a visual reminder of a joyful day spent on the water.
This an statement about this particular series “ On the Road” this is no. 1
I have created a new series of abstract figurative work called "On the Road." They begin with drawings on the iPad. These sketches are combined with various materials including encaustic, photos and drawings. They were initiated while traveling on trains, planes and subways, during various travels to interesting and unique places. They represent an immediate visceral response and reflect my emotional reaction to these experiences. They are printed in various sizes and are combined into families of images mounted on board . My paintings are created by arranging my iPad drawings into a grid, which further emphasizes the relationships between each piece and creates a cohesive final product. This grid structure adds a layer of organization to the abstract and spontaneous nature of my digital drawings, resulting in a harmonious balance between chaos and control in my work.
My art is a reflection of my travels and experiences, as I use my iPad to spontaneously capture the world around me in abstract drawings. These drawings are a playful and childlike expression of my surroundings, and when printed and combined with mixed media, including encaustic paint, they come to life as vibrant and textured paintings. My work explores the intersection of technology, abstraction, and materiality, and I am constantly inspired by the world around me to create pieces that are unique and full of vitality.
The versatility of my art lies in the fact that my digital drawings can be printed in various sizes, allowing me to create paintings of varying dimensions. This flexibility not only opens up new possibilities for how my work can be displayed, but it also enables me to bring my abstract, spontaneous expressions to a wider audience and make them accessible in different spaces and settings.

This next piece in my series is a painting of a mysterious triangular figure. The use of black and grey tones creates a moody and introspective atmosphere, making the figure appear somewhat distant and unapproachable. This painting was inspired by a moment at a café in Paris, where I observed a person sitting alone, seemingly lost in thought. The triangular shape adds an element of geometric abstraction to the figure, making it an intriguing and thought-provoking piece. The moody colors and enigmatic subject create a sense of mystery and privacy, inviting the viewer to contemplate the emotions and thoughts of the figure.

The main Cathedral in Alta Bergamo, Italy is the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Maggiore.
While visiting Alta Bergamo, I had the opportunity to enter a magnificent cathedral, known as the Duomo. Inside, I was struck by the various statues and religious artwork. The Christ in the center was very moving and sad. Upon leaving, I was inspired to capture the beauty and grandeur of the building. I found a quiet spot outside and painted my impressions of the Duomo. The painting reflects the awe-inspiring architecture, the intricate details and the serene atmosphere of the cathedral. It is a visual representation of my spiritual and artistic journey, and a tribute to the beauty and history of the Alta Bergamo Duomo.
Despite the beautiful architecture of the Alta Bergamo Duomo, my artistic impression of it was much darker and more ominous. The weather was dark and rainy, which added to the somber atmosphere. The painting portrays a forbidding figure, surrounded by the architectural elements of the cathedral. The image is both eerie and captivating, capturing the moody and introspective nature of the moment. This piece is a visual representation of the complex emotions I experienced during my visit to the Alta Bergamo Duomo, showcasing the interplay between light and dark, beauty and mystery.

My next digital painting was inspired by an exhibition I visited in Prague which explored the theme of privacy. This painting reflects my thoughts and feelings about the current state of privacy in our society, and how it relates to our personal and collective experiences. The use of abstract and figurative elements in the painting creates a sense of ambiguity and mystery, inviting the viewer to reflect on their own relationship with privacy and the role it plays in their lives. This work is part of my ongoing exploration of the impact of technology on our personal and collective experiences, and how it is shaping the future of privacy and identity.

In this portrait of my husband, I use line to create an abstract representation of the weight he carries as a critical care physician. He faces complex relationships with both patients and their families, balancing the need for compassion and strength in the face of life and death situations. The weight that he carries as a critical care physician. I use line and shape to represent the complexity and depth of his thoughts and emotions. The portrait captures both the challenges and purpose that he experiences in his work, where he must balance compassion, strength, and giving, while dealing with life and death situations. My work reflects a creative interpretation of the human experience, using abstraction and line to express the intangible and complex aspects of the subject. Instead of relying on traditional techniques of light and shadow, I use line to express the intensity and depth of my husband's role and the emotions it brings. Through this portrait, I aim to capture the essence of my husband's strength, resilience and purpose in life.

In Hopi culture, figures and symbols hold great spiritual significance and are often used to tell stories and convey beliefs. These figures can represent specific Hopi deities, animal spirits, or historical events. The use of symbolic imagery is deeply ingrained in Hopi culture and is used in their religious ceremonies, storytelling, and art. The Hopi people believe that through their art, they can connect with their ancestors and the spiritual realm, promoting harmony and balance in their world. The specific meaning behind a Hopi dancer figure can vary, but it may represent a particular aspect of Hopi spirituality, such as reverence for nature, the cycle of life and death, or the connection between humans and the spiritual world.
I was fortunate to visit a Hopi mesa and meet a carver named Kerry David and he talked to my family about the Hopi culture. I witnessed a traditional dance ceremony. The intricate movement and gestures of the dancer, combined with the vivid colors of their costume and the spiritual significance of the dance, left a profound impression on me. In this painting, I wanted to capture the essence of that experience, the energy and spirit of the Hopi dancer. Using bold, fluid lines and a no color palette, I created an abstract representation of a dancer, one that conveys the energy, grace, and strength of the performance. This piece is a celebration of cultural tradition and the power of movement and gesture to convey deep spiritual meaning.
Yes, Hopi culture values the use of symbols and imagery to express their beliefs and connect with the spiritual realm. Their art, including dancer figures, reflects their deep respect for nature and the cycle of life and death, and serves as a means to communicate with their ancestors and the spiritual world. The creation of abstract images inspired by one's experience with Hopi culture is a testament to the profound impact this culture has on those who encounter it. I was especially effected by an evening spent with a Hopi carver who discussed the necessary reverence need to own one of his pieces. He spent explained so my of the culture to my family and were so appreciative of this interaction.
I did a series of collages connected to this experience which was deeply moving to me.

As an artist, my work is inspired by the beauty and power of nature. In my latest piece, "The Spirit of Growth," I have personified a plant in my garden, imagining it as having its own personality. This abstraction captures the essence of the plant and its connection to the natural world, conveying the idea that even plant life has so much spirit and life. Through this artwork, I aim to celebrate the beauty and resilience of nature and remind us of the importance of preserving and cherishing the environment. This painting captures the essence of my desire for freedom and joy. The spirit soaring above the sea in clouds represents the liberation I feel when I let go of my fears and doubts and embrace the journey of life with positivity and happiness.
The sea, being vast and open, can symbolize a journey or a state of being in which one is unencumbered and unbound. The spirit's joyous demeanor suggests a feeling of happiness, contentment, and satisfaction with this state of being. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for the human spirit's desire to be free and untethered, to soar above the difficulties and challenges of life and to find happiness in the journey.

I have tried to figure out why this image of an Egyptian woman witch cut arms came to be and is encircled and almost womb like. This paintings development was very spontaneous. Figure 12 above is a close up this.
I believe, the presence of bleeding arms in the painting can add a layer of complexity to its interpretation. The bleeding arms could represent the physical and emotional pain that the woman in the painting, and by extension, the person viewing the painting, is experiencing. It can symbolize the difficulties and hardships that one is going through and the toll that they can take on the body and soul.
In the context of my personal experience, the bleeding arms in the painting may serve as a powerful reminder of the pain and difficulties I am are facing and the courage it takes to endure them. I had someone close who ,at the time was harming themself. The image of the Egyptian woman in a timeless frontal position, despite the bleeding arms, can represent the idea that even in the midst of struggle and suffering, one can maintain their strength, resilience, and dignity.
This painting represents the challenges and difficulties I am facing, as symbolized by the bleeding arms. As I look at this painting, I'm struck by the contrast between the dark and light elements. It's almost as if it's depicting the internal struggle we all face at some point in our lives. The darkness symbolizes the difficulties we encounter, while the white lines offer a glimmer of hope, representing our search for balance and structure. It's a powerful piece , this painting scares me a bit, the face is cut of half there yet not. However I believe that It ties in with the previous painting, reminding us that the journey of life is a constant balancing act between darkness and light.

Creating this drawing of George, my beloved King Charles Cavalier dog, was a spontaneous act born out of my grief after his passing. As I worked, something unexpected happened: George's image emerged, as if he were still with me. It was as if my pencil was moving on its own, guided by my emotions and memories. Even though it was not intended, I couldn't help but see his presence in the final piece. To me, it was a powerful reminder of the special bond we shared. Others might not see what I see in this automatic drawing, but that doesn't diminish the importance or meaning it holds for me. This experience just goes to show that sometimes the things we don't intend can come to the surface in unexpected and profound ways. In my mind his spirit being had come to me.

This black and white piece is a abstract striking representation of a female figure, whose translucent head is shining with light. The body, however, is spiked, giving the impression of a tough exterior. This contrast between the delicate head and the spiky body is a powerful metaphor for the duality of the human experience. The light in the head symbolizes the inner strength and resilience that lies within us all, while the spikes suggest a hardness or defensiveness that we put up as a form of protection. This piece is a visual representation of the delicate balance between our soft and vulnerable inner selves and our tough and resilient outer selves, and it speaks to the complexity of the human experience. "I am Watching You" is a painting that deals with the theme of privacy and virtual surveillance in our modern world. The painting features abstract imagery and bold lines to convey the unsettling feeling of being watched. The central focus of the composition are the "computer eyes" built into a figure, representing the increasing prevalence of surveillance in society.
These computer eyes serve as a metaphor for the increasing influence of technology on our daily lives and the ways in which we are constantly monitored and watched through devices and systems. The intense gazes of the eyes in the painting reinforce the idea that someone or something is always watching and create a haunting and ominous atmosphere.
Overall, "I am Watching You" is an issue I am concerned about in our everyday lives. It is meant to be thought-provoking work that invites viewers to consider the impact of virtual surveillance on our lives and the implications for privacy in a world where technology is becoming ever-more present.

My black and white drawing is a representation of contained energy being enveloped. The use of a limited color palette and organic lines creates a sense of energy being contained and held within the boundaries of the composition. The feeling of being comfortably enclosed and contained that I experienced while drawing the piece may suggest a sense of safety, security, and comfort within the confines of one's own. Here in my drawing there is a contrast between the contained energy and the sense of comfort that the of containment can evoke by holding energy and emotions within. This can be a source of comfort and security. In this abstract nature piece , I encourage you to draw your own interpretations and connect with the work on a personal level. When I look at it it reminds my of an Egyptian sarcophagus.Although it was not intentionally created I think it spontaneous occurred just from my experience visiting different museums, particularly the MET where I have seen sarcophagus.
So ,I think this piece may be influenced by my memories of the these visits. it’s sense of containment and the bold lines and shapes, are reminiscent of the ornate carvings and motifs found on these ancient artifacts. The use of black and white, combined with the organic lines and forms, creates a sense of balance and harmony that speaks to the timeless beauty of these ancient works of art.
In the organic lines of this virtual drawing and the lack of color, I try to use black and gray to contribute to the overall mood.

Angel Wings ,Body and Spirit" ,is a painting inspired by the dogmas of Italy and the concept of angels. The mix of abstract body parts and brain imagery in the piece speaks to the idea that the body and the mind are intimately connected, and that they work together to create a whole being.
In the context of my painting, the presence of angels suggests a spiritual dimension to this connection between body and mind. This angel may symbolize the idea of a higher power or consciousness guiding and shaping our thoughts, emotions, and actions. They may also represent the idea of the soul and the connection between our physical and spiritual selves.
The use of abstract forms in the piece creates a sense of fluidity and movement, suggesting that this connection between body and spirit is dynamic and constantly evolving. This creates a feeling of energy and vitality, and reinforces the idea that our bodies and minds are integral components of a larger, interconnected system.
Overall, "Angels, Body and Spirit" is a hopes invite you viewers to consider the relationship between the physical and spiritual aspects of our existence and to contemplate the idea of a higher power guiding our lives. It is a happy drawing.

Dear me ,
I want to discuss this digital image you created with your iPad, which depicts the feeling of having too much on your brain. This is in a sense a Rorschach, it reveals a lot about your thoughts and emotions and it's a great reminder that we all have moments of feeling overwhelmed.
This painting is a call to action, a sign that it's time to focus your thoughts and concerns and take control of your life. You have the power to create change and growth by being more intentional with your thoughts and actions!
One of the ways you can do this is by practicing mindfulness. Take a few minutes each day to be present in the moment, focusing on your breath and sensations. This will help you become more aware of your thoughts and emotions, and give you a sense of clarity and peace.
Another way to focus your thoughts is by prioritizing and planning your tasks and activities. Make a to-do list or schedule time for specific tasks, so you have a clear plan for what needs to be done and can avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Additionally, it's important to eliminate distractions and create a quiet and focused environment for yourself. Turn off your phone, find a quiet workspace, or find a place where you can be alone with your thoughts. This will help you stay focused and present, and give you the space you need to grow.
Lastly, remember to take care of yourself. Get enough sleep, exercise regularly, and eat a healthy diet. Taking care of your physical health will have a positive impact on your mental clarity and focus.
I hope these tips help you , myself and I.
And remember your personal art therapy through this technique is one way to think about yourself and the world, and your place in it.
Love you bestie self, me
Maureen

The painting features wings, which could be interpreted as a symbol of transformation, freedom, and elevation. Wings are often associated with the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly, as well as with angels, who are seen as symbols of protection, guidance, and divine intervention. The inclusion of wings in my drawing may suggest that the metamorphosis being depicted is not just a physical change, but also a spiritual one. The wings could be seen as a symbol of the subject's ability to transcend their current limitations and soar to new heights, both literally and figuratively. The painting is a celebration of the power of transformation and the limitless potential it holds. These drawings are spontaneous and I do not start with an attention by it appears as I do it. This painting represents the feeling of self-love and contentment that can be achieved through mindfulness practices like meditation, yoga, or simply being present in the moment. The colors, brushstrokes, and composition have been carefully chosen to evoke a sense of peace and inner peace.
As you look at my painting, you might notice the use of calming colors like blues and which help to create a sense of serenity. But the reds ,and warm colors are a juxtaposition of fire energy. The lines are loose and expressive, conveying a sense of freedom and openness. And the arms hug to hold together a sense of balance and warmth. I think the overall composition has been had unconsciously evolved to draw the viewer's eye inward, suggesting a focus on introspection and self-reflection but positively, with optimism and hope.
In short, this painting is a celebration of the power of self-love and mindfulness to bring peace and contentment into our lives. It invites the viewer to take a moment to reflect on their own feelings and experiences, and to find joy and happiness within themselves.

The use of color in art can greatly impact the mood and emotion conveyed in a piece. In these next two drawings , I use the same color schemes with different color schemes to inspect the difference and see how it changes my mood. Compare a and b figure 29 29 How does it change for you? How does the difference between the brown background and the yellow background make you feel? It’s very personal.
Different artists have approached color in unique ways to evoke different feelings and atmosphere.
For example, artists like Mark Rothko and Albers utilized color to create abstract and atmospheric works, while others like Milton Avery used bright and contrasting hues to create a playful and lighthearted mood.
Rothko's color fields were intended to evoke a sense of contemplation and introspection, with his use of large blocks of color evoking a sense of depth and spirituality.
Albers, on the other hand, explored the interaction of color through his series "Homage to the Square," using color combinations to create visual illusions and depth.
Avery, on the other hand, used bold, bright colors to create a sense of joy and happiness in his depictions of everyday life.
Like other artists I use color to create a specific atmosphere, mood or emotional response from the viewer. Color can evoke feelings of joy, sadness, excitement, contemplation, despair and many more. By intentionally combining different colors, we artists have the ability to create a unique visual language to communicate their ideas and emotions. See next image. he cultural and racial meanings attached to different colors can also play a role in how we interpret the mood and atmosphere in an abstract digital image. Cultural and historical associations with color can vary greatly between different communities and societies, leading to different interpretations and emotional responses to the same image.
For example, in some cultures, white is associated with purity and innocence, while in others it may be associated with death and mourning. Similarly, red can evoke passion and excitement in some cultures, while in others it may represent danger or anger.
It's important to keep in mind that these cultural associations with color are not universal and can vary greatly between different communities and societies. Understanding these cultural differences can help us appreciate the different perspectives and emotional responses to color in art, and help us to create works that resonate with diverse audiences.
In conclusion, the cultural and racial meanings attached to different colors play a significant role in how we interpret and respond to color in abstract digital images. Understanding these cultural differences can help us appreciate the different perspectives and emotional responses to color in art, and create works that are culturally sensitive and inclusive.

This painting is a celebration of joy, inspired by the book 'Joy' by Bishop Tu Tu and the Dalai Lama. It captures the essence of the spirited conversation between the two leaders and the impact that truth and wisdom can have on our lives. The vibrant colors and energetic lines reflect the lightness and positivity that comes from embracing joy in our daily lives. Through this piece, I hope to convey the message that joy is not only attainable, but also essential for our well-being and In our journey towards spiritual growth, joy and truth are important concepts to understand and embrace.
In this book
Joy is a feeling of contentment, happiness, and fulfillment that comes from within, and it is not dependent on external circumstances. On the other hand, truth is a fundamental aspect of our existence that provides a sense of clarity and direction. It is important to strive towards a deep understanding of truth in order to live a meaningful and authentic life.

In this painting , drawing, digital print, I depict a woman who feels oppressed and marginalized, unable to express herself freely. This theme is reflective of broader issues faced by many women, including gender inequality and the suppression of female voices in various contexts. These issues are often rooted in societal norms and biases that value male perspectives and experiences over those of women. Women continue to face challenges in achieving equal opportunities, representation, and respect, both in the public and private spheres. The painting can be seen as a visual representation of the struggle of many women to assert their autonomy, identity, and voice in a world that often silences them.
